Have done crazy and much crazier things before, but usually with friends and not with folks. This time, as if to beat the records, it was with Folks.
Travel Destination - The Hill Fort, Alwar (Neemrana's sister fort)
Travellers - Dad, Ma, myself, Bhai, his wife, and little Mishi
Distance Covered - 258 kms
Time taken - 9 hours (including two breaks of an hour each)
Started from Malviya Nagar at 11.00 am...came home (gurgaon) to pick up my camera for the trip was a sudden plan. (Thanks to one of my friends who helped in choosing the destination). Took me almost half an hour to search for the god damn camera (I was already exhausted by then).
Dad, ma, bhai and his wife reached around 1.00 pm - we went to submit one of Mishi's school forms in Sriram. Headed straight to a petr0l pump, fuelled in the car, filled up the tyres and off I was on NH8 with my family around 2.00 pm. (Manish had a tender to close and hence was busy in office). We were hungry and stopped by the Mc Donald's to grab burgers and fries. Bhai chose to sit with me in the front seat - and I regretted offering him to sit there ...reason I will tell you in a while.
We reached Bhiwadi - spent good 1 hour or more in talking to property dealers and looking around at the new constructions - hey, the ashiana group is making really good societies across NCR (the other day I checked out in Indirapuram) and now I see 3 in Bhiwadi. Decent flats and huge societies I must say. I never knew Bhiwadi was coming up so well...considering it is a small township in Rajasthan.
Anyway, after what seemed like an eternity, we headed towards Alwar. I was pretty enthusiastic at the thought of driving on NH8 with a considerable speed, only to figure out that the road to Alwar was not that. It was a small road, with lots of speed breakers...(my car, with low ground clearance hit the breakers almost everytime, except a count of three that my Bhai, sitting by my side, calculated!Didn't know bro's are such a pain, when they see their sis driving...) ...the road side view wasn't all too great, which put us off...for almost the hundreth time, I suggested my brother to just skip Alwar and get on to the road to Jaipur. He still had hopes. Towards the end of the journey, we did come across some stoney foot hills, which looked pretty decent...but nothing great I would say. I almost had a heartattack when I reached Alwar (Bhai took over the driving seat about 10 kms before Alwar, when I wanted to do some photography.)...a small town, very unorganized, with not even a single soul knowing where the goddamn Hill Fort was...dad, ma had a good laugh and each time I would say hill fort, they would translate it to "pahadi kila" to the localites...didn't help solve the purpose...after 20 minutes, I decided to call the guys at hill fort to find out the way..we did get to the right track...but surprisingly there was not even a single sign board telling us the locations or anything (What kind of marketing do these guys in the neemrana group do?) ....this place was 15 kms away from alwar...in the picture, it looked like a foothill..and i imagined it to be in the mountains...after 14 kms, we did see a small sign bard, which said 'way to hill fort, kesroli'. I wasn't very comfortable with the road that led to the resort...my apprehensions were confirmed when we reached there. in between fields...in solitude, there was a small teela, on which resided the great 'Hill Fort'....amidst a local village...u could see cows, people having tea outside chai wala's shop...rest everywhere it was thse fields with jwar and bajra...two cars in the parking lot...the time was dusk..around 6.45 in the evening, getting dark...I wouldn't say the place is well maintained..as it should for the heritage properties...maybe it was the wrong choice afterall and maybe it would have been different going with friends, but I must say, it looked very haunted..with not even a single soul guest..all I could see were the staff folks...nt at all friendly...
Ma gave her piece of mind right after entering that there was no way she was gonna' stay in that beehad ilaaka the whole night. Dad did not see comfortable either. Goldie went crazy when he heard the tariff - 3500 for one night..only the room rent, plus 400 rs of dinner for a single person. (I think they were reasonable as compared to Neemrana.)..much as I tried to convince them, they were adamant on going from that place. I had no option but to offer to drive back to gurgaon (the other resorts or hotels in alwar did not appeal to me AT ALL.)...my personal opinion, i think the place was decent...the view from the top of the fort was pretty neat...one could see the distant foothills and huge fields spread across...the skyline looked awesome around dusk. We had tea and snacks there..(it was humid in the open area of the terrace)...told mishi it was cindrella's place (she was very excited about it)...after an hour...7.45 pm...we took off from there...back to Alwar, and from there, towards gurgaon. Night driving is a little difficult when there are full beams flashing from those nasty big trucks..but anyway, we reached gurgaon at 11.00 pm in the night....in the 3 hours and 15 minutes drive, I think I got into arguements with my bro about 10 times...each time he would say something...and I will tell you what...
'dipper de'
'don't honk'
'speed up - you are at 80 only'
(Dad from behind ' Don't listen to him, maintain your speed at 80)
Bhai again ' why can't you overtake the truck'...(even if it means smashing the car to another truck coming from opposite)
'tujhe highway pe drive karna nahi aata' (Understood brother, as if you are a pro at it..huh!!)
...lemme drive..."no, I don't trust you'...'come on, I drive better than you do'...'okay, maybe, but I can't risk my car with your driving'...'okay, then let me go off to sleep, i know we will reach in the morning'...'how does it matter..all i want is us to reach safe'. Both of us decided not to ever come together for a trip.
And an hour later, we were planning a trip to kannataal, ahead of mussoorie. Manish was considerate enough to get nice south indian from Navedya...and so we called it a day after the awesome dinner.
(Going unorganized and unplanned anywhere is adventurous but when you go with your family, I think you should never think on those terms...i realized when I saw ma's reaction...she refused to stay there...so folks, if you plan to take your flks to heritege properties, think twice..they may not like it...they may not like any place which is isolated.)
