Musical Saturday...

Quite a cool saturday morning - friends over...had a great music session with sir - started aalaap in the bandish 'ae ree, aali' and enjoyed it to the core. I enjoy every moment of my music class...I hope I can learn it as long as I want to. Music - is the ultimate passion in everyone's life. In mine too. It soothes you, it freshens you up, it touches you deep within, it energizes you, it creates romance in your life, it brings you close to love, it makes you a better human being. I still remember 'Abhimaan' - and the song 'teri bindiya re'...with such ease both AB and Jaya depicted a very different way of romancing, and I still remember the way both sat in that song, one after another, not looking at each other. Songs..I almost t lost in them...'din dhal jaye, raat na jaye, tu tou na aaye teri yaad sataye'...another touchy song from Guide. and 'O Maajhi re'...'kuch tou log kahenge' 'roj roj aankhon tale'...'ek akela is shaher mein'...Arpan and my duet singing on ‘Saathiya ye tune kya kiya’…’Mere naina saawan barse’…for almost 10 years now.

"bahon mein chale aao, hum se sanam kya parda' had a wonderful sensuality - very subtle though. So did 'aaiye meharbaan, dekhiye jaaneja, 'shauk se leejiye jee, ishq ke imtihaan'. With semi-classical touch, my best bets have been 'nadiya kinaare' from Abhimaan again, then 'O sajna, barkha bahaar aayi, ras ki phuhaar layi' and ' Piya tose naina laage re'... hmmmm...kesariya was also good.

Mentioning songs and no mention of my hot favourite song these days - ye tou ho hi nahi sakta. I rate 'o meri jaan' from Metro as the best song of the year 2007. I think both the lyricist and the singer have done a great job with this song. Awesome is the word for it. Classy lyrics, classy tune, and beautifully sung. This year I think Gangster and Metro beat the charts, undoubtedly.

Mirza Galib, Ghulam Ali Saheb and Jagjit will always find themselves in my thoughts whenever I talk of music - the ones that keep in memory are 'Hazaron khwaishe aisi, ki har khwaish pe dum nikle', 'Kal Chaudhavi ki raat thi, hungama kyun hai barpa, aawaargi...and Jaggu dada's "mein nashe mein hun, Main kaise kahoon jaaneman' (this one I owe to Muchu - he sung it for me the first time.) …and Muchu so many others like ‘hum tum chori se, bandhe ek dori se’…

Heavy metals - and there I go with my favourite number 'Sad but true' and 'nothing else matters'. 'Seek and destroy' to soothe my irritable moods sometimes. November Rain and sweet child of mine bring tranquility within (remains favorite of many people I know).

I also want to talk about 'I believe in love'by Don Williams - I have never heard a more touchy song in my life - it is not a love song but a very humane song. Enrique has always turned me on with 'Addicted'. And so has Bryan Adams with his 'Inside Out'. Lionel Richie never sang better than his 'Easy like a sunday morning' and Kenny Rogers was his best in 'Lady' and 'Three Times a Lady'. (My choice of music remains very backdated because people may have moved ahead in time, I am still there or maybe I don't understand the new singers that well.). Lobo gave me a song to remember for life 'Don't tell me goodnight, it makes me feel so empty inside'. Pink Floyd gave 'Comfortably Numb'. Dirty Dancing gave 'Hungry eyes' and 'I had the time of my life'. And I gotta mention 'Endless Summer Nights' - bahut saari yaadein judi huyi hain with this one.

And 'You fill up my senses' - the song Manish dedicated to me in Goa, 7 years back.

Been a pleasure remembering all these songs - I already have my agenda ready - to look for all of these and listen to them and remember the lost times....
